The Local Folke has always been a creatively driven and a community building space. We brought The Raw Table straight from MNL for this creative experience. and we are greatly thankful for Chiara, for doing this with The Local Folke. With less that one week to prepare, and to send invites we were able to push through, with 12 awesome creatives who were brave enough to go through waking up early on a Sunday, a long travel and commute to Arca's Yard Cafe, The Local Folke Gathering x The Raw Table was in play.
As freelancers and creatives, waking up early is the hardest thing to do, with long nights and nocturnal lifestyle this is basically too much to ask of them but they all came through, truly this was an experience we all can't miss over a few more hours of sleep. The gathering was definitely a shot to the moon. It was a huge blessing that these people were excited as we are about this experience. Even though everyone lacked the 8-9 hours sleep we were all energized thanks to the lovely coffee and cloud tea Arca's Yard has to offer.
To share human experience has always been our foundation and bringing people together and have them share and talk about themselves has been something we are very passionate about, way back in college we call these "reflection meetings" which felt like a waste of time simply because we all wanted to end the day and go home every after duty. But we wanted to share that experience because it made us the people who we are today. As millennials, we have been accustomed to meeting people online, and seeing them and admiring them from afar. and we wonder what if we are able to meet these people beyond the screen would they be less interesting simply because they are more human and less than what we expect them to be.
Surprisingly enough they have a lot more to offer beyond the curated social media posts and what not, that humanness made everyone feel validated after meeting everyone. That everyone, however, different goes through the same thing and knowing that people go through it just as they do, made everyone feel at home with these strangers- that they were doing just okay, that everyone no matter how stuck they feel, they felt that they can all move forward. and I guess that's what it means to be in a community. Where everyone, get's to share and talk, and be heard.
Besides the sharing of ideas, experiences, and angst, we get to learn a lot from these people. Everyone shared lifehacks and adulting advice. Everyone was willing to listen and everyone has something to say and add to it. It was a surreal experience that everyone felt humanly creative again and felt they can change the world with doing what they do, and continue to create. After the talks and good food, everyone was motivated again to make things possible. Some took the time to consult with each other and collaborate on next projects. It has been an inspiring experience to everyone.
It all ended with smiles and a light heart -The end goal for this gathering is to build a community of creatives who are willing to work with each other and collaborate with everyone. We thank all the people who attended our pilot gathering on short notice and we promise we'll continue to work and improve on this. We are all grateful for everyone who helped and believed that this is a worthy cause.
